Stage Hypnotist - The Evolution of Stage Hypnosis

Is there a secret to stage hypnosis? Perhaps because of its physical representation on stage and its connection to the magical performer, stage hypnosis has become a mystery like that of magic. I have been asked many times as I'm sure other hypnotists have, " Are you gifted?" I wish. The hypnotist is like any other profession in that you are seeing the results of years of training in the stage hypnosis program (some more than others of course.) A good stage hypnotist program is a culmination of many variables; training, background experience, choreographed routines, tempo, choice of material, music, lighting, physical setup and of course the most important of all criteria, the volunteers themselves.

A few good volunteers can make the stage hypnotist show. Any hypnotist with some experience behind him/her can tell you of "killer" shows where the audience reaction was phenomenal and shows of where they were nursing the docile subjects to the end of the show to fill the time slot. The latter usually were pubs where nobody came to see the stage hypnosis and were to drunk to follow it if they could. Today, I think there are a few new stage hypnotists that have managed to avoid the dirty pub scenes due mainly in part to the popularity of the entertainment. They have walked right in to the universities, high schools, fairs and corporate gigs. Maybe it should be compulsory that every new stage hypnotist has to do the pub crawling across the country with their stage hypnotist presentation before they can perform in legitimate locations. Yea, thats the ticket!

Stage Hypnosis has gone through several transitions since its first form of entertainment where the volunteers were merely actors. A troup would travel from small town to small town, not associating in public with the hypnotist but always seeming to be the stars of the show. The shill or stooge was gradually removed from the stage hypnosis show as genuine stage hypnotists developed their craft. The entertainment moved through theatres and make shift theatres, practically anywhere a performance could be held. The night clubs started to become very popular as the routines could be more risque. Pubs followed and then the comedy clubs. Stage Hypnosis seemed to be popping up everywhere. Highschools utilizing the stage hypnosis show as a fundraiser then brought the hypnotist back for their graduation celebrations. Corporate banquets and conventions became popular for the stage hypnotist and usually had the biggest budget.

Today's modern audience expects a fast paced show with a very minimum induction time. In the early years it was not unheard of for the stage hypnotist show to have a 20 - 30 minute induction, quite a lengthy period of time for any audience to sit in silence. As the entertainment progressed stage hypnotists began developing shorter and shorter periods of time. Depending on the audience The Robert Mesmer Stage Hypnotist Show has AN INDUCTION OF 1-3 MINUTES.
